Last Monday January 29th, the team at The Home Design Group attended an event at the Waterfront celebrating the achievements of Northern Ireland’s sporting stars, athletes and players. It was our honour to be given the opportunity to sponsor the award for Team of the Year at the Belfast Telegraph Sports Awards and to shine a light on the great sports talent of Northern Ireland. On the evening, Netball NI were awarded the coveted Team of the Year as sponsored by The Home Design Group. This was a very fitting result as we are already sponsors of Westside Netball Club and it’s fantastic to see netball getting some well-deserved recognition.
With 14 awards up for grabs, this truly exciting night saw the cream of Northern Ireland’s sporting talent get together to celebrate sport and the collective work of teams. Jonathan Rea took away the highest award on the night in recognition of his third World Superbike title win and was named Belfast Telegraph Sports Star of the Year.
The Northern Ireland football team was also recognised for their inspiring World Cup qualifying campaign with team manager Michael O’Neill noting the high standard of sporting ability in Northern Ireland as well as reflecting on his new status as a sporting icon. “Tonight brings home how much of a role sport plays in Northern Ireland and what we’ve achieved, so I always enjoy it […] To have such a good national team is a big thing for everyone in Northern Ireland. […] We’ve had a great four years and we want to continue.”
Dame Mary Peters, Olympic gold medallist was one of the judges who sat on the committee this year has said how thrilled she was by the level and wealth of talent displayed on the night. “A few years ago, people never thought we’d have the quality. But I tell you what – every category this year was really worthwhile. Great stars of the present and the future.”
Our team from The Home Design Group attended this special event to both sponsor the award and to celebrate the tradition of sports in Northern Ireland. It was a fantastic event and we’d like to congratulate everyone involved and all the sports people for their hard work, dedication and talent.
