The owners of this stylish home transformation wanted to add a small downstairs bathroom to their house and make a practical change to their home that will be useful for both themselves in future and for whenever guests come to visit. An extra bathroom in a convenient downstairs location can really make a great addition to any home, add a useful function and even potentially increase the value of a property in mere weeks.
When deciding where to install the bathroom in this home, it was apparent that the perfect location was to the left of the front door, tucked away neatly and in a convenient space within the house. To create the extra room, we needed to reduce the size of the original kitchen to allow for the downstairs bathroom. Losing a large section of the kitchen is never ideal as it’s often the heart of the home, where families gather for meals and chats and where you share a cup of coffee with friends. The decision was made to extend the kitchen into the garden and install some large windows to allow natural light to flood into the room and create beautiful views of the picturesque garden.
This is a fantastic way to bring some of the beauty of your outdoor surroundings indoors while maximising the space in your home. The customers chose an understated brown frame for the extension windows in the kitchen and a fresh white colour for the kitchen units. The overall effect is contemporary, bright and airy and feels quite spacious. The customer loves to sit at the kitchen table now and look into their garden as they enjoy breakfast or a morning coffee.
The finish for the bathroom was chosen in a soft marbled effect in vinyl that is easy to clean and maintain and adds a sleek touch to this convenient new room. In particular, we’re delighted to report how the customers commented on the excellent project management provided by the Home Design Group team as well as the fast installation time, meaning the disruption was minimal.
